Used as a preliminary layer before applying the main laminate, Chopped Strand Matting is commonly utilized in model boat making.
To ensure proper application, it is recommended to use between 450g to 550g of resin for every meter of roll.
This versatile material can be used as a single layer or in multiple layers for laminating. The fibers in the matting are randomly arranged and held together by a binder, either an Emulsion binder or a Powder binder. Emulsion binders are suitable for Polyester Resin or Vinyl ester use, while Powder binders are exclusively used with Epoxy Resins. Once the matting is coated with Polyester Resin, the binder gradually breaks down, allowing the material to easily conform to shapes and consolidate into a laminate. Generally, a ratio of 1.5 to 2.5 Resin to Glass is recommended, meaning that for every kilogram of matting, between 1.5kg to 2.5kg of resin should be used. Chopped Strand Matting finds numerous applications, including but not limited to Surfboards, Kit Cars, Boats, and various industrial moldings. It is also commonly employed in repairing bodywork, boat hulls, and laying flat roofs.
