Premium quality 400gsm heavyweight carbon fiber fabric is crafted from high-strength 12k carbon fiber in a traditional 2×2 twill weave. This denser carbon fiber fabric facilitates the rapid production of thicker laminates and provides considerable cost advantages when compared to utilizing multiple layers of a lighter fabric.

Carbon fibre is well known as being one of the highest tensile strength materials in the world. Dry carbon fibre cloth (as listed here) is the high performance reinforcement used in motorsport, marine and sporting applications where the highest possible strength-to-weight ratio is required. Carbon fibre cloth can be laminated with conventional polyster resin (fibreglass resin) or vinylester resin but is most effective when laminated with high performance epoxy resin in order to exploit the mechanical properties of the reinforcement.

The ‘2/2 twill’ weave pattern refers to the way that the weft and the warp are interwoven; in the case of a 2/2 twill this is over-two-under-two which results in the characteristic ‘diagonal pattern’ in the weave that most people associate with carbon fibre. This 2/2 twill weave pattern also makes the fabric softer and more ‘drapable’ which helps it to conform to contoured mould shapes more easily.

This carbon fibre fabric is suitable for wet-lay laminating, vacuum bagging and resin infusion.
